Man convicted of Ipswich guest house murder
It's after the death of 37 year old Steven Povey on Norwich Road last year
A man has been convicted of murder after a man was found fatally injured at a guest house in Ipswich last summer.
41 year old Warren Atkinson, of Norwich Road, was found guilty at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday (November 16) following a nine week trial.
He'd denied the murder of 37 year old Steven Povey, who pronounced dead at a guest house the pair shared on Norwich Road on July 9 2021.
Police were called by the ambulance service at around 4:55pm, finding Povey unconscious in a kitchen in a property.
He was lying on his back on the floor under a large wooden coffee table and had visible injuries to his face.
He was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead at 5:35pm.
A post mortem found Povey had suffered 62 separate injuries to his head and body, including blunt force trauma.
Atkinson was seen coming out of the kitchen covered in blood in the moments before the ambulance was called - he was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH but was later charged with murder.
He initially denied attacking Povey, claiming his victim had fallen over. He later changed his story to claim he acted in self defence.
He was unanimously found guilty of murder and has been remanded in custody ahead of a sentencing hearing on November 29.
