Man charged following Bury St Edmunds stabbing

A man's been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after woman was stabbed in Bury St Edmunds.

It happened on St Olaves Road on Wednesday evening, just after 10:25.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was walking her dog when she was approached from behind by a man, who was not known to her, and stabbed.

She was taken to West Suffolk Hospital where her injuries were confirmed as not life threatening or life changing. She has since been discharged from hospital.

58 year old Stephen Byrne, of Hodson Close was arrested half an hour after the incident.

He's been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article in a public place.
