Man arrested in connection with serious sexual assault in Ipswich

A 24 year old man has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Ipswich last week.

It happened on a river towpath near Tower Mill Road last Thursday (December 8) at around 11:40pm.

The victim, a girl in her late teens, was approached from behind by a man who pulled her to the ground.

The suspect ran off in the direction of Sproughton Road after being disturbed by a member of the punlic.

The man, who's from Ipswich, is being questioned at Martlesham on suspicion of attempted rape.

Suffolk Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, including anyone who captured CCTV or doorbell footage in the area at the time.

Patrols in the area of the river towpath have been stepped up in response to the attack.
