Man arrested following robberies at business premises
Police investigating three robberies at business premises in Ipswich over the past week, have arrested a man in connection with the incidents.
The first crime occurred between 5pm and 5.15pm on Thursday 15 July at a betting shop in Carr Street, where a man entered the premises and threatened staff before making off with an amount of cash.
The second offence took place at approximately 8.30pm on Monday 19 July at a convenience shop in Felixstowe Road.
A man jumped over the counter and grabbed hold of a female shop assistant, before stealing a quantity of cash from the till. The victim sustained some scratches and bruises following the incident and was left very shaken.
The final incident occurred at a convenience shop in Clapgate Lane at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 21 July.
A man entered the premises and then without warning assaulted a male member of staff by punching him several times, before forcing him to open the till. A quantity of cash was stolen, along with cigarettes and alcohol.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment having sustained injuries to his jaw and nose, along with cuts and bruising to his face.
Police were called and traced a suspect to an address nearby, where he was arrested by officers approximately 30 minutes later, at 4pm.
The man – who is aged 43 and from Ipswich – was arrested on suspicion of three counts of robbery and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, where he currently remains for questioning.
