A man in his 40s has been arrested after a serious sexual assault in Bury St Edmunds.

It happened in Nowton Park on Sunday (May 29) between 7pm and 8pm.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, had arranged to meet a man for the first time.

While she was in the park she was sexually assaulted by the man. She is now being supported by specially trained officers.

A suspect was arrested in the London area earlier this morning and is being questioned on suspicion of attempted rape.

Police are now seeking anyone who was in the area of Nowton Park around the time.

In particular they're looking to speak to a woman with shoulder length blonde hair who was walking her spaniel, which was white with a brown shoulder patch, in the area.
