£10million restoration plan submitted for Lowestoft's historic Town Hall

The restoration of Lowestoft’s historic Town Hall building is set to move forward as work details for the £10m restoration have been submitted.

Permission to turn the grade-II listed building, vacant since 2015, into a multi-use hub with a cafe, gallery, and community event space was granted by East Suffolk Council in November last year subject to conditions.

The required details about the work on the Victorian building, initially set to start this April, were submitted on Monday, with a reopening date still set for late 2025.

District and town councillors have said the restoration costing £10 million would bring several benefits to the town.

Funding for the scheme was achieved through £3.2 million from the National Heritage Fund, £1.8 million from the Government’s Towns Fund, £900,000 from ESC, and £4 million from the town council’s Public Works Loan.
