A lorry fire on Peto Way, Lowestoft led to road closures this morning.

Suffolk Police said they were called just before 7am and the Fire Service attended.

The fire was extinguished by 9.30am, but debris from the scene has kept the road closed.

Nearby residents were initially advised to keep their windows closed due to smoke in the area.

No injuries have been reported.

A spokesperson from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters have made good progress despite the additional challenge of hidden fire within the lorry’s insulation boards.

"Shortly after 10am, crews from Lowestoft South were relieved by colleagues from Lowestoft North, who continue to tackle the blaze and work to make the area safe.

"Suffolk Highways has been notified that a streetlight was damaged during the incident.

We advise road users to avoid the area until the situation is fully resolved.”
