A large vaccination centre is opening in Bury St Edmunds today (4 February) to accelerate jabs in the area.

It is located at the former Riverwalk School and will help administer thousands of doses of the Covid-19 vaccine each week.

It's the second large centre to begin operating in Suffolk, following the opening of Gainsborough Sports Centre in Ipswich last week.

Nigel Leonard, Executive Director of Strategy and Transformation at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, which is coordinating large vaccination centres in Essex and Suffolk, said: "The opening of these centres will have a huge impact on our ability to accelerate vaccinations to the people of Essex and Suffolk and protect those most at risk as quickly as possible.

"I would like to thank my NHS colleagues, partners and everyone involved for their incredible work and dedication to enable these centres to open as quickly as possible."

The centre will work as an additional option for priority groups who have been contacted to book an appointment, with others urged to wait for an invitation.
