"It was tough but we knew what we had to do": McKenna praises resilient Ipswich after Port Vale win
Town came from behind to win 2 - 1, keeping hold of the number 2 spot in League One
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has heaped praise on his squad after they came from behind last night to win 2 - 1 against Port Vale.
A goal from Mal Benning late in the first half sent the Blues back to the dressing room with work to do.
The response came within the first 10 minutes of the second half via Nathan Broadhead, who also found the net in the 84th minute via a penalty.
Speaking after the match, and off the back of Saturday's 6 - nil win against Charlton, McKenna said: "It feels just as good to win that game because we were in a difficult situation."
"There is just as much pride in the players because we came through a situation of adversity and got it done in the second half.
"We were facing a team with a new manager and it was hard to tell how they were going to come to Portman Road. They're usually one of the highest pressing teams in the league but tonight they had an incredibly narrow and deep block.
"It was tough but we knew what we had to do in the second half and we delivered a strong performance and deservedly got the three points.
"We knew we would face situations like that. If you're going to be successful you have to come through them.
"It's a sweet victory but just another three points and now we have to get ready for Saturday."
Ipswich Town remain second in League One with just four games of the regular season to go.
They have a game in hand on Sheffield Wednesday, in 3rd, who got past Bristol Rovers 2 - 1.
Leaders Plymouth are just a point above Blues at the top of the table.
