Ipswich Town just a point off top of League One after 3 - 0 Cambridge United win
The Tractor Boys left it late to break the deadlock, before putting three past United
Ipswich Town are within touching distance of returning to the top of League One after last night's three - nil win against Cambridge United.
Blues left it late on to open scoring at Portman Road with Leif Davis, Conor Chaplin and Freddie Lapado all coming close.
Tyreece John Jules knocked the ball in with his first touch of the game in the 72nd minute.
The 26,000 fans at Portman Road didn't have to wait long for another with Kyle Edwards netting three minutes later.
Edwards put a third on the scoresheet in the 86th minute.
Speaking to the ITFC website, boss Kieran McKenna praised his team's 'patience'.
"It was similar to last year, in that they came and defended in numbers and made it difficult for us to break them down."
"In those situations you have to be patient and keep doing the right things.
"It's a balance between being aggressive but also being patient and keeping your composure. I thought we managed to do that really well.
"We wore them down eventually and the crowd were very good.
"They understood the context of the game and they understood what Cambridge were looking for.
"Everybody in the stadium stayed calm and kept pushing forward."
Town remain second in League One on 27 points, with Plymouth Argyle topping the table.
