Ipswich Town fans help raise £10,000 in aid of motor neurone disease research

Ipswich Town fans have helped to raise £10,000 to help people with motor neurone disease in honour of former forward Marcus Stewart.

The cash was raised through sales of a new accessories range, including gloves, snoods and scarves, was was launched after Stewart announced his MND diagnosis last September.

50 year old Stewart scored 19 goals in the top flight in the 2000/01 season, helping the Tractor Boys to a fifth placed finish.

Town qualified for the UEFA Cup the same season.

The cash will got to Team Stewart, set up by Marcus' family, which has already raised over £135,000 for MND research.

It will then be passed onto the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

Stewart, who also enjoyed spells at Bristol Rovers, Huddersfield and Sunderland during his career, was inducted into the ITFC Hall of Fame last month.

He returned to Portman Road to watch his former team play Plymouth in January.
