Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has praised his players after their 4 - nil home win against Morecambe last night - Town's first victory of 2023.

Forward Freddie Ladapo opened the scoring within the first minute, adding a second goal 15 minutes later.

Conor Chaplin then added two to Town's account in the first half, with the Shrimps unable to muster a response in the second half.

Its a big step towards putting Town's League One promotion campaign back on track.

The Tractor Boys are now in third on 54 points, with Sheffield Wednesday in second on 58 and Derby County in fourth on 50 points.

Plymouth Argyle still top the table on 61 points.

Speaking to the ITFC website, Kieran McKenna said: "It was a good performance from individuals and as a team."

"It was also a good result and an important step for us. We want to try and build some momentum. It was a good night's work and everyone enjoyed it.

"The fast start was good and I liked the build-up to the corner that we earned that then created the goal.

"The delivery was good for the first goal and players were attacking the right area.

"Set piece goals can be very important because once you unlock the door it can change the complexion of a match completely.

"Freddie is growing and developing all of the time as well, and he deserves a lot of credit for that. His all-round game is coming on so much and he is in a good place.

"We scored four goals and created a lot of chances in the first half, which is very pleasing.

"It was more difficult to create chances in the second half with the changes that Morecambe made at the break, but we maintained complete control and it was good to get the clean sheet.

"It sets us up well for Burnley in the FA Cup this weekend then a tough trip to Cambridge in the league next week."
