Ipswich sees near 5% rise in child poverty between 2015 and 2023
Over three quarters of parents worry about not having enough money to provide for their family
The UK Government is being urged to do more to support families struggling with food and money
It's as a new report from the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) found over three quarters of parents (79%) worry about not having enough money to provide for their family, whilst 65% of children report money worries themselves.
Government data shows there are currently around 4.2 million children in poverty, with that number expected to rise.
Two areas of Suffolk have seen a rise in child poverty between 2015 and last year- according to data from CPAG.
Ipswich saw the biggest increase, with 4.8%, whilst East Suffolk saw it go up by 0.5%.
Kate Anstey is from the group.
She says the national number of kids living on the breadline is still too high: "If there's no action taken more children will love in poverty.
"We're currently talking about 1 in 4 children living in poverty - we're on our way to 1 in 3 children living in poverty...
"Across the UK, family incomes are not enough at the moment, meaning they can't escape the poverty line.
"75% of children living in poverty are in households where someone works, so it doesn't pay to work at the moment.
"Families can't escape poverty even if they're working."
The Government say they've helped nearly 400,000 children out of absolute poverty since 2010.
