Ipswich man jailed for causing death by careless driving
He'd pleaded guilty
A 47-year-old man from Ipswich has been jailed following the death of woman in a fatal road traffic collision in Wherstead.
Batsirayi Maundo, of Wherstead Road, Ipswich, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 9 April, where he was sentenced to 14 Months imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 5 years and seven months.
Maundo had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on 4 February 2021.
The collision occurred at 7.15am on Wednesday 3 July 2019, when officers were called to reports that a silver Ford Fusion and a white Nissan Qashqai had collided on the A137 at Bourne Hill in Wherstead.
The driver of the Nissan Qashqai, 58-year-old Angela Last, also known as Tracey, from Ipswich, sadly died at the scene.
The Ford Fusion, driven by Maundo, was travelling southbound from Ipswich on the A137 towards the A14 and the Nissan, driven by Mrs Last, was travelling in the opposite direction, when the collision occurred.
Maundo was taken to Ipswich Hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation was carried out by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit and they determined that the Ford Fusion was being driven on the wrong side of the road at the time of the collision.
Alex Matthews from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mrs Last. Collisions like this ruin so many lives. Motorists must ensure that they are concentrating at all times."
