Leaders in Ipswich have agreed to a funding package of close to £40,000 to support charities in the town.

Last Tuesday, Cllr Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council’s deputy leader, presented proposals to allocate £39,800 for two years across five different charities operating within the town to members of the authority’s executive.

The money was part of a larger £259,200 community grant budget, £219,400 of which was already allocated to other organisations in previous years.

Cllr Rudkin said: “We’re really pleased we are still able to help organisations that do great in our community and align with our objectives.”

Executive members unanimously agreed to allocate the money.

The biggest recipient of the new grant funding will be ICENI Ipswich, with £12,500, to provide therapeutic interventions to vulnerable families facing disadvantages and break the cycle of generational addiction or domestic abuse.

Close behind was Lighthouse Women’s Aid, with £11,800 to support those affected by, or at risk of, domestic abuse while also providing children and young people with a safe space to look at issues surrounding domestic violence.

The grants will be allocated from the beginning of April.
