Ipswich's iconic Purple Shop is on the hunt for a new location after more than 50 years at its current site at the end of Fonnereau Road.

The tattoo and piercing shop, which also sells various trinkets and novelty items, has been a familar site near Christchurch Park since the early 1970s and has been called The Purple Shop since 1972.

It's owners say they're now looking for new, larger premises to allow for the business to grow.

In a statement posted online, shop staff said: "We are incredibly sad to be saying goodbye to our iconic purple building, it has served us well for 50 years, but it no longer suits the direction business is going."

"Wherever we move to, please be assured, we will take the spirit of the shop with us and will continue to serve you all as we always have! "

It's not yet known if the current building will remain purple, or if the new location will also get its own iconic paint scheme.
