First Covid-19 vaccinations given at Ipswich Hospital
The first doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been given out at Ipswich Hospital.
East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust (ESNEFT), which runs Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals, has confirmed the first Pfizer vaccines have been given to staff at Ipswich Hospital this morning (Monday 4th January).
The first jab went to Jamie who works as an orthopaedic practitioner in the hospital's plaster room and A&E.
He returned to his shift shortly after getting his vaccine.
Junior Doctor, Thuvraka, from the Child Health team was the second staff member to be vaccinated.
Staff members across the hospital will continue to receive the Pfizer jab over the coming days.
The NHS Trust says it will also be rolling out the jab to some of the most vulnerable people in Ipswich and East Suffolk over the coming days.
It comes as the first dose of the Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccine was given to 82 year-old Brian Pinker in Oxford this morning.
He was the first person in the world to receive the jab outside of trials and says he can now look forward to his 48th wedding anniversary.
