Ipswich Borough Council has been handed a £20,000 grant from the government, to help clean up chewing gum on the town's streets.

The money will be used to focus on two 'problem areas', in the town centre and Ipswich Waterfront.

The grant comes from Chewing Gum Task Force, which was set up by the by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and is run by charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Councillor Phil Smart, from Ipswich Borough Council, said:

“We have recently been awarded funding and are working on an awareness campaign for later in 2022 and that will be targeted at Ipswich Waterfront and Ipswich town centre as these are two areas that we know have problems with irresponsible chewing gum disposal."

"These require frequent removal by our Ipswich Borough Council waste teams and we shall deliver on improvements here.”
