Bus services in Ipswich which were under threat have been granted a last minute reprieve thanks to new funding.

The last service of the day on the 3E, 5E, 8, 9 and 13 was due to be cancelled, as the Council could not afford to support the routes with subsidies.

Local firm Ipswich Buses has now stepped in with a pledge to fund the routes until at least the end of the year.

The bus firm is wholly owned by the Borough Council and was able to find the funding as it isn't required to turn a profit.

Councillors have welcomed the move, but have warned the public to use the services - or risk losing them,

Councillor Phillip Smart, of Ipswich Borough Council, said “I’m very pleased that Ipswich Buses has been able to step in and make this offer. I urge residents to use these services so that they are not lost in the future”.
