A branch of Lloyds Bank in Ipswich is to close later this year after the banking giant announced fresh cuts.

The Bramford Road branch will be among 22 Lloyds locations to go across the country, with 18 branches of Halifax also facing the axe.

The final day of opening will be May 4.

It adds to 64 closures across the UK that have been announced since the beginning of the year, with Barclays and TSB saying they will shut 24 sites between them.

A spokesman for Lloyds said: “Branches play an important part in our strategy but we need to have them in the right places, where they are well-used.

“We’ll continue to invest in branches that are being used regularly, alongside our online, mobile app and telephone services.”

It raises fresh questions about access to cash and banking services in Suffolk, with many high street bank branches closing over the past several years.
