IOPC rules no crime committed in death of Sudbury man in Essex who'd been tasered
An investigation has been taking place into the police response to Sali Byberi's death in November 2022
The police watchdog has found no evidence of a crime being committed after a man from Suffolk who was tasered in Essex died.
Sali Byberi's death in Braintree in November last year's been assessed by the IOPC.
An inquest heard the car wash manager from Sudbury in Suffolk suffered complications related to cocaine ingestion.
The hearing is due to resume in July 2024.
An IOPC spokesperson said:
“In October 2023, we completed our investigation report into the circumstances surrounding Mr Byberi’s death.
“We found no indication that the actions of any officers involved in this incident justified the bringing of disciplinary proceedings or that they had committed a criminal offence. The officers were treated as witnesses during our investigation.
“The officers and Mr Byberi’s family have been notified of our decision and our report has been provided to HM Coroner to assist with upcoming coronial proceedings.
“We are unable to provide further details about our findings until the conclusion of inquest proceedings.”
