Service launched to support independent living in Babergh and Mid Suffolk
The new service will offer advice and support where home adaptations will improve residents' lives

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils have developed the Independent Living Service with the aim of improving the quality of life for the areas' most vulnerable residents.
It'll be used to offer support and advice on home adaptations needed to help people live more independently, safely and comfortably in their homes.
The service will also be used to assist disabled people, or those who may need adaptations made due to changes in health, via the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) and the councils' Minor Adaptation Grants Scheme.
Councillor Jan Osborne, Babergh District Council cabinet member for housing, said: "Bringing this vital service in-house will give us greater flexibility in supporting our residents. This new service will allow us to provide a more efficient and cost-effective service.
"Poor health is generally unplanned, and not something that you can prepare for. This new way of working will help us to directly support those with unplanned and long-term health issues or anyone needing additional support."
According to both authorities the new service will raise the quality of life, improve time for DFG applications, provide the best support for residents and reduce demand on wider care systems in Suffolk.
It'll work in partnership with Independent Living Suffolk and each authority will be able to tailor their provision to meet the needs of their communities.
An assessment by Suffolk County Council therapy staff is required for the first step, who will then make recommendations on the adaptations or support needed.
Those in need can contact them via email on ILS@Suffolk.gov.uk or by calling 0800 121 7711.
