Police say a large fire in Ipswich last night started in a home which was being used as a cannabis farm.

Crews were called to Kitchener Road just after 10.30pm on Sunday after flames spread through the roofspace of neighboring properties.

Police and ambulance crews also attended the scene. Teams from UK Power Networks also helped out.

The road was closed and nearby residents evacuated temporarily as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Police say a large amount of suspected cannabis plants have been discovered inside the property, along with growing equipment.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.
