An 11 year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital following a hit and run in Ipswich.

Police say they asked a black BMW to stop on London Road at around 7pm last night, but the driver failed to do so.

A short time later the car drove into Burlington Road and hit a parked car with a family of four inside.

The 10 year-old suffered serious head injuries, while her mother, father and another child were all taken to hospital to get checked over.

The male driver of the BMW fled the scene on foot and ran off in the direction of Civic Drive.

He's described as black, in his 20s, around 5 feet 2 inches, tall and slim build.

He was wearing a long black padded coat with a white emoji design on the hood, light coloured tracksuit trousers and white trainers.

Police are concerned for his welfare and keen to find out where he is.

Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to come forward.
