A lorry driver has been cut free after a 40 foot shipping container fell on his cab at the Port of Felixstowe.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident after 5pm yesterday (21 April).

Two crews from Felixstowe, one from the Port and another from Ipswich worked to cut the HGV driver free, before leaving at 6.50pm.

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, two Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) vehicles and an air ambulance to the scene.

After being transported to Ipswich Hospital for further care, the driver of the HGV has since been discharged.

A spokesperson for the Port of Felixstowe said a full investigation into the cause of the accident is now underway.
