Great Blakenham landfill site to close in 2030 to make way for new sports resort
The Masons site is the proposed location of the Valley Ridge sports and leisure facility

It's been confirmed a landfill site in Great Blakenham will close in late 2030, paving the way for a new sports and leisure resort.
The Masons site will stop operating in December 2030 before work to restore the land commences.
The former quarry has been operating as a dump since the early 1990s and its closing date had been a major barrier to proposals for the new Valley Ridge water and winter sports park.
Valley Ridge, formerly known as SnOasis, promises to be the "UK’s next premium staycation resort".
It would comprise of a holiday park connected to a ski resort and water park.
It's thought it could bring ÂŁ500m investment to the region, creating hundreds of jobs.
Councillor Richard Smith, of Suffolk County Council, said:
“I am pleased the committee has resolved to approve this application, which would set a new end date for the final restoration of Masons Landfill and which could facilitate the proposed Valley Ridge development.
“Members have taken this decision based on robust evidence which enables Suffolk to be net self-sufficient in dealing with its waste, along with enabling the neighbouring Valley Ridge development and investment to be delivered.”
