A new doctors surgery could be built on the site of a former Ipswich bakery, under new plans.

Ipswich Borough Council says it's been working with local health bosses to set up a new GPs on the former Took's Bakery site.

It's to help cater for the growing number of people living in the north east of town.

If approved, the former Took’s site at the junction of Bury Road and Old Norwich Road would see a brand new building complete with 29 clinic rooms, 11 nurse rooms and a minor operating suite being built.

Councillor Martin Cook, Portfolio Holder for Major Capital Schemes at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “This is such an important development for the people of north-west Ipswich.

“Once complete it will be one of the biggest GP Surgeries in the Ipswich area which will enable the Cardinal Medical Practice to deliver a wide range of services under one modern roof.

“I am really pleased that Ipswich Borough Council, working with the NHS, is taking the next steps to drive this project forward and look forward to seeing it take shape in the future.”

If agreed by the Council’s planning committee, works are due to commence on site in 2024 with a completion date in 2025.
