Person dies following flat fire in Ipswich

Suffolk Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to a call for Crocus Close just off Lavender Hill at about 10.28 am on Tuesday due to a fire.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue have confirmed the fire took place on the ground floor and one person has died as a result.

Speaking at the scene station, manager Alex Smith said: "Today crews from Ipswich attended a well-developed flat fire and sadly there has been a loss of life despite the best efforts of crews.

"A full investigation will take place with fire and police working together to work out the cause of this incident."

3 fire engines were on the scene, 1 from Ipswich East and 2 from Princess Street.

Four firefighters were wearing breathing apparatus and used 2 hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established but is not believed to be suspicious.
