A Fireworks display in Suffolk has been postponed “due to unforeseen weather conditions”, following a yellow weather warning from the Met Office.
Claremont Pier in Lowestoft has postponed its New Year's Fun Day & Fireworks to Saturday, January 4th.
It comes as forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning, predicting strong winds across Suffolk to the start of New Years Day.
Director, Ben Llewellyn said: “It’s a very hard decision and a decision that we didn’t want to take.”
He added: "We would have loved to have gone ahead with it but it’s one of the only days this week where there’s a yellow weather warning. We’ve made the decision to change to Saturday and fingers crossed it the weather will still stay lovely.”
“Safety and enjoyment remains our top priority”
In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for the Pier said: “Due to unforeseen weather conditions, we are moving our New Year's Fun Day & Fireworks to Saturday, the 4th.
“While this change may require some adjustments, our commitment to safety and enjoyment remains our top priority.
“We look forward to celebrating together in a welcoming atmosphere free from the constraints of the weather.”
Claremont Pier says that any donations made on the night will be in aid of rebuilding the end of the Pier.
Mr Llewellyn says, “we’re around 90 to 95 percent there now” and they are on the “final push”
He added: “Obviously when you start doing projects like this, the money does start disappearing very quickly. So, we have been trying to keep under budget and I’m hoping now with this last push that we can really get this peer back over for the community.”
