A family have paid tribute to a husband and wife who were fatally injured in a crash in Long Melford last month.

Augustin Simmons, who was 87 and wife Margaret Simmons, 86 - were known to friends and family as Peggy and John.

They were involved in a collsion with a cement mixer lorry on the B1064 Sudbury Road, at the roundabout with the A134, at around 3:50pm on April 28.

Both were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital but passed away on April 30.

Paying tribute, the family wrote: “It is with great sadness that Linda, Karen and Kevin Simmons announce the passing of their beloved Mum and Dad, Peggy and John Simmons, in Addenbrooke’s Hospital on Sunday 30 April.

“Peggy and John were seriously injured as a result of a collision on the afternoon of Friday 28 April and despite the outstanding efforts of the Addenbrooke’s ICU doctors and nurses, they passed away peacefully with their family beside them.

“The family would like to thank everyone involved in their rescue and subsequent treatment, with particular and heartfelt thanks to those first on the scene and that tried so very hard to help and comfort Peggy and John.

"We would also like to thank all those that have offered their condolences and such kind words.

“Although we have lost the most wonderful parents, we will take consolation from knowing that they are still together and at peace.”
