Estimated £8m worth of cocaine seized from lorry container in Haverhill
80 packages of cocaine were discovered by police last week
A man has been charged after cocaine with a street value of around £8m was discovered in the back of a lorry in Haverhill.
Police were called to Iceni Way at around 10:50am on March 3, finding a container that was being unloaded.
A hidden void within the container was found to contain 80 packages of cocaine, worth millions of pounds.
49 year old Vitali Macari, from Romania, was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with being concerned in carrying or dealing cocaine, with intent to evade prohibition on importing.
He appeared at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday (March 6) and has been remanded in custody ahead of a further appearance on April 3.
The National Crime Agency has been called in to help investigate the find.
