Election: Results of the local elections in Suffolk

Results of the local elections for Suffolk in May 2021.

Residents in Suffolk headed to the polls on Thursday 6th May to vote in England's local elections.

In Suffolk residents had the chance to vote for their next County Councillors and a Police and Crime Commissioner.

A third of Ipswich Borough Councillors were also up for election.

Council by-elections were held in some areas including: East Suffolk, West Suffolk and Babergh.

Most votes in the elections are due to be counted over Friday 7th May and Saturday 8th May, with declarations due shortly after counting finishes.

We'll be updating this page as and when results come in.

Suffolk County Council

All 75 seats were up for election at the polls on Thursday.

Going into this election the Conservatives had a majority, holding 50 of the total seats available.

The Blues managed to retain overall control of the council and gaining an extra five seats in total.

The Green's made the most ground, tripling their numbers, making them the largest opposition on the council.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner

People in Suffolk also had the chance to vote for who they wanted to be their next Police and Crime Commissioner.

Incumbent, Tim Passmore (Conservative) retained his position with 54.7% of the vote turnout.

Final results:

Tim Passmore (Conservative) - 112,139

Elizabeth Hughes (Labour and Co-Operative Party) - 47,159

Andrew Patmore (Green) - 27,965

James Sandbach (Lib Dem) - 17,801

Ipswich Borough Council

A third of the seats, or 16 places, on Ipswich Borough Council were up for re-election this year.

Of those being contested 14 were Labour, three Conservative, and one Liberal Democrat.

Labour held the majority going into the election.

There were also two vacancy's in the Castle Hill and Holywells wards.

Labour managed to retain overall control of the council but did lose six seats to the Conservatives.

There were also a number of council by-elections held on the 6th May to fill vacant positions in a number of areas.

In East Suffolk, one seat was available in each of the following: Beccles and Worlingham, and Framlingham wards.
