East Suffolk's beaches celebrated
Some have won awards
As people plan their UK summer holidays, some of East Suffolk's most beautiful beaches have received awards, placing them amongst the best in the country.
Each year, the country's best beaches are awarded Blue Flags and Seaside Awards by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. This year, Seaside Awards have been awarded to the beaches at Lowestoft South of Claremont Pier (bathing / resort), Southwold (bathing / resort) and Kessingland (non-bathing).
Additionally, Felixstowe Town Council and Felixstowe Forward, supported by East Suffolk Council, have successfully secured both a Blue Flag and a Seaside Award for Felixstowe beach (Felixstowe South and Pier).
Cllr Letitia Smith, East Suffolk's cabinet member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism said:
"We are delighted to have been awarded Seaside Awards for our beaches. Seaside Awards are presented to the best beaches in England and celebrate the quality and diversity of our coastline. We have outstanding, popular beaches in East Suffolk and these awards reflect that.
"More people will be taking their holidays closer to home this year and anyone visiting East Suffolk's beaches this summer can be sure they are visiting one of the best in the country.
"We would advise anyone visiting the beach to ensure they are adhering to the current restrictions, to use their common sense when choosing where to visit, check the availability of facilities such as parking and public toilets, and to remain cautious if a location seems to be busy. We also ask that people dispose of their litter in the nearest bin, or take it home."
The Seaside Award is run by Keep Britain Tidy and recognises and rewards beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet the required standards for water quality and other specified criteria.
