Diego the brown bear set for public debut in Suffolk today
He was rescued from a park in Sweden that was shutting down
A brown bear who would've been put to sleep if he wasn't saved by a Suffolk farm is making his public debut today.
Diego was rescued by bosses at Jimmy's Farm in Wherstead, after it was revealed he was the sole surviving bear at Orsa Predator Park.
There were some concerns he could've been euthanised, until Jimmy Doherty, the owner of Jimmy's Farm stepped in, to provide a forever home for him.
Diego arrived in the county a few weeks ago, taking time to privately settle in to his new enclosure.
Now, Jimmy's Farm says he's ready to say hello to visitors to the farm.
"He's a perfect example of a Northern European brown bear "
Jimmy describes Diego as "ever so friendly" and says " he'll come when you call him...
"When you see him in his enclosure you suddenly think 'wow bears used to live in Britain'.
"They would have been a part of this ecosystem in this woodland here."
He also revealed Diego's settled in well, and is already showing off a mischievous personality: "We put this beautiful pool in his enclosure - it's a bit like a jacuzzi.
"We also have him lots of bark chip to allow him to dig. He started digging and managed to fill his pool up with the bark chips!
"I told him off and he just looked at me with big dopey eyes, like your dog does, and then just wandered off into the woods."
Jimmy finally suggested Diego's got a promising future - already attracting attention from other zoos for his "valuable genetics": "He's so handsome and the perfect example of a Northern European Brown Bear..
"We've already been contacted by another zoo with two females that want a 'liaison' with Diego!"
