Suffolk County Council hikes council tax rate by nearly 4%

People in Suffolk are facing a council tax hike of nearly 4%.

It's as Suffolk County Council has voted to approve its annual budget for the year.

The local authority's dedicated nearly £690 million pounds to spend in the county between April 2023 and 2024.

Part of the funding will come from a 3.99% increase council tax for Suffolk householders, which comprises of:

  • an increase in the element relating to county-wide services equivalent to a 1.99% rise in Council Tax
  • an increase in the element ring-fenced to help fund Adult Social Care (the Social Care Precept) equivalent to a 2.00% rise in Council Tax

  • Adult & Community Services - £326.4 million (47%)
  • Children & Young People - £150.9m (22%)
  • Central Resources & Capital Financing - £55.3m (8%)
  • Growth, Highways & Infrastructure - £51.5m (7%)
  • Corporate Services - £38.2m (6%)
  • Public Health & Communities - £39.9m (6%)
  • Fire & Public Safety - £25.4m (4%)
