A 51-year-old man died after his powerboat hit a stationary houseboat during a race

A Bedford powerboat club has paid tribute after one of its members died in a crash during a race in Oulton Broad, Suffolk.

Emergency services were called shortly after 7.10pm on Thursday 24 July after a powerboat collided with a stationary houseboat near the Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre. The driver, 51-year-old Brett Duncan, died at the scene. No one else was injured.

He's been named by the Circuit Powerboat Association. The incident happened during an event run by the Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club.

Stewartby Powerboat and Hydroplane Racing Club, based near Bedford, shared the association’s tribute on social media, confirming Brett was one of their members.

The shared statement said: “As an experienced and popular member of the power boating community, we are shocked and saddened by Brett’s untimely passing and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this tragic time.”

It added: “We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all of the event staff and the emergency services for their swift and timely response to the incident.”

Police say they are continuing to investigate the crash with the support of other agencies.
