Events will take place around Suffolk to highlight the impact of climate change in the country and discuss solutions to slow it down.
Local community groups and organisations tackling climate issues will be showcased to encourage businesses and residents to commit to reducing carbon emissions.
It comes ahead of the United Nation’s annual COP26 climate change conference, which will be held in Glasgow in November.
An electric ‘Carbon Battle Bus’ will visit the University of Suffolk on 1 September, as part of the national Zero Carbon Tour organised by Planet Mark. The bus is visiting cities across the country to spread the message of carbon neutrality on its way to the COP26 conference.
Businesses will have the chance to learn how they can lower their environmental footprint in a Ten Steps to Net Zero webinar on 12 October. The webinar is designed for businesses to hear from climate leaders in the area about the actions they can take toward net Zero.
Andy Walker, the Head of Policy and Public Affairs at the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce said:
‘Really it’s about everyone pulling in the same direction to reach net zero by 2030 so that we’re in a better state for the economy in the long run.’
The steps set out in the net zero document range from small actions like reducing waste and water consumption, to larger initiatives like adopting electric vehicles and ultimately, carbon offset.
In the webinar, businesses will also learn about the benefits of beginning a journey toward neutrality, including a competitive advantage, helping their supply chain, and reducing long-term costs.
