Police investigating a stabbing in Bury St Edmunds, which left one man dead and a woman in a critical condition in hospital, have made a second arrest.

A 17 year-old boy from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of this morning.

It's after police were called by a member of the public to Harland Court on Tuesday afternoon by a member of the public who believed a stabbing had taken place.

Two people were found in a nearby flat with stab wounds.

A man, who's been provisionally identified as 43 year-old local Karl Skoulding, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman, who was injured, was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Police say a Home Office post-mortem established it was multiple stab injuries which caused Karl's death.

A 38 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder nearby shortly after police were called on Tuesday - he remains in custody.

Police have been given extra time to question him.

Officers from the Major Investigation Team are still establishing the exact circumstances of the incident and forensic enquiries are on-going as well as a detailed trawl of CCTV footage.

Police believe that the parties involved were all known to one another and additional officers will have a visible presence in the area over the coming days to offer reassurance to residents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Investigation Team.
