Bury St Edmunds among hardest places to pass your driving test first time
It's almost as difficult to pass in Bury as it is in parts of London and Birmingham
Bury St Edmunds is apparently one of the hardest places in the UK to pass your driving test, with only just over a third of people passing first time.
Analysis by insurance firm ingenie looked at the pass rates at test centres across the UK, and ranked the pass rates among those which have conducted at least 1,000 tests since April 2020.
Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield) had the lowest pass rates for people on their first attempt, with only 36.5% succeeding in getting a licence.
Bury St Edmunds came fourth in the rankings with a 38.3% pass rate.
Across the UK, between April 2020 and June 2021, there were 248,293 first attempt tests taken with 126,742 passed - a 51% pass rate.
Commenting on the figures, a spokesperson for ingenie.com said:
“A driving test is a monumental occasion in someone’s life, and it is the disparity shown in driving test pass rates for first attempts is fascinating.
"Someone is nearly twice as likely to pass their driving test on their first attempt in Dorchester than in Birmingham.
"Despite there being many factors that make up a driving test and its success, this analysis highlights the clear data demonstrating that some areas have a higher first attempt pass rate than others”
