Bar chain Brewdog has pulled out of plans to open a new location in Ipswich, amid concerns about the state of the economy.

The firm secured a licence to open a bar in a vacant space on the Waterfront, formerly occupied by the La Tour Cycle Cafe, back in January.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Brewdog said: “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have reluctantly had to withdraw from the proposed Waterfront location, due to the current challenging economic conditions affecting the viability of this site."

"However, we remain committed to opening in the town in the future and bringing BrewDog to the people of Ipswich.”

The firm operates 70 locations across the UK. The new bar in Ipswich was expected to create 20 jobs.
