Beccles man charged after allegedly choking woman

He's also accused of coercive control and driving offences

A Beccles man has been charged in the first use of a new law targeting alleged perpetrators of domestic abuse by Suffolk Police.

29 year old Paul Whall of Newsons Avenue is accused of assault, intentional strangulation and controlling or coercive behaviour of a woman.

He's also charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.

He was arrested and charged on June 20.

He's been remanded in custody appear before Ipswich Crown Court on 19 July.

It's the first case of a charge by strangulation by Suffolk Constabulary under new legislation that came into force on June 7.
