67 new affordable homes for Claydon now one step closer
The project would see land off Ely Road re-developed
Claydon is one step closer to seeing 67 new affordable homes built despite concerns raised by the parish council.
This comes after a Mid Suffolk planning meeting last week regarding an application submitted by Minster Property Group back in 2018.
Initially, the planning application outlined the construction of 67 new dwellings along the east of Ely Road, of which 35 per cent were designated as affordable housing.
After the meeting, however, all of the houses will now be classed as affordable with a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent.
The new homes will fill the current amount of people on the registry, the developers hope it will bring more demand to the area.
The application proposal read: “Whilst Mid Suffolk has a healthy supply of affordable housing, this proposal represents a beneficial addition to the supply.”
Although this is good news for first-time buyers who might be feeling de pinch of the cost of living crisis, there were still several conccerns raised by the parish council.
More specifically, there were worries regarding the “overdevelopment of a small site”, issues with parking, and the recent closure of the local GP surgery.
Despite this, councillors found “the impacts are considered to be outweighed by the benefit of affordable housing”.
However, there is still some time to go until work starts as the reserved matters application was deferred in order to fix issues relating to access, appearance, landscaping, layout, and scale.
