Bros frontman Matt Goss joined Jackie Brambles on Greatest Hits Radio to chat about what he's been up to recently, including appearing on Strictly Come Dancing and working on new music.

Matt was announced for the 2022 series of Strictly back in August, and made it through to Week Four with professional partner Nadiya Bychkova. He unfortunately left the show after a dance off against Kym Marsh and revealed that he hasn't been watching it since.

He told Jackie: "I’m not watching Strictly anymore. I’m genuinely rooting for every single one of them as I know it’s an important show for people but being on Strictly, I had to make a choice and it was an easy one for me. I’m a gentleman so if someone is critiquing me and saying my form is wrong, I’ll listen, I’ll take it on the chin and say thank you for your critique, I’m not going to disagree with the judges, they’re professionals. But as a by-product of that you’re not going to get a lot of me, you’re not going to get a lot of Matt Goss.

"I did gain a lot from it, I learnt a lot about my posture, and I also got to get my issue of Poland Syndrome out there."

Poland Syndrome is a condition that results in underdevelopment in the muscles in and around the chest, and Matt added: "It can affect you on so many levels and my version is that I only have one pec, I don’t have a left pec. On many of the Bros pictures you’ll see me with a towel covering myself and that was because I was ashamed and very, very self-conscious."

Comparing his music career to dancing on Strictly, Matt explained: "As a musician, you don't compete against your fellow musicians. It's a strange one. You might be influenced by them, or inspired by them and you might want to play with them but you're not competing with them and you're not critiqued on every note."

Is Matt Goss releasing new music?

On 2nd December, Matt shared the music video for his new song 'The Beautiful Unknown', which he says is about "taking a leap of faith". In March, he released an album by the same name and there's even more music in the works for Matt, whose next album will be covers of Cole Porter songs with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

He told Jackie about the particularly special song on the album: "‘Every Time We Say Goodbye’ relates to my Mum. I never really had the courage to say goodbye to her and I didn’t get the chance to either. It was a long battle but when she eventually passed it was very sudden and a quite violent experience for me, so I ended up just not having that moment with her."

Is Matt Goss on tour?

Matt will be bringing The Matt Goss Experience across the UK in 2023, where he will be joined by the MG Big Band and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra playing some of his greatest hits and a tribute to songwriter Cole Porter.
