People in Stoke face 2 years of road delays to install pipework
The work is set to "modernise the pipe infrastructure"
Residents face two years of delays on Stoke-on-Trent roads as Severn Trent announce plans to install over 24 miles on new pipe. Work on the £25million project started today.
The work is set to modernise the pipe infrastructure and ensure resilience for the future. The scale of the work will mean work is conducted in stages and will start with Milton Road, Berwick Road, Birches Head Road and Fairfax Street.
Water bosses say contractors will aim to ‘minimise disruption’ during the long running scheme and say a dedicated website will be set up to stay in touch with customers. The whole of the project is expected to be completed by April 2027.
The company invited affected customers to two drop in sessions for customers to hear more about the plans and raise concerns they have over the work.
Charlene Richards, Community Communications Officer for Severn Trent, said: “These works are part of a huge project for Severn Trent that will bring massive benefits to Stoke-on-Trent and our wider region.
“The new modern materials will last up to 100 years and create a more secure network for all of our customers. Please be assured that we, along with our contractor partners Pipeline Utilities and McAndrew Utilities, will do everything we can to minimise any disruption.”
Councillor Adrian Knapper said: “It’s a major investment by Severn Trent Water Authority, estimated at £25million and it’s going to improve the quality of water for local residents. Obviously it’s a two year project and over that two year period there’s going to be some disruption or some relative disruption to certain people.
“If people are concerned about any issues they need to raise it with Severn Trent or the contractors who have ensured us they will listen to the concerns and try their best to resolve matters that occur over the two year period.”
