Woman's body pulled from canal in Congleton

A woman's body has been pulled from a canal in Congleton.

Police say they were called to an area off St John's Road yesterday afternoon, following reports of a concern for the safety of a woman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was also rescued from the water and was taken to hospital.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 2pm on Monday 21 March following reports of a concern for the safety of a woman in a canal off St Johns Road, Congleton.

"Emergency services swiftly attended the scene.

"Sadly, despite best efforts, the woman died at the scene.

"A man was also rescued from the water and has been taken to hospital for treatment."
