Man due in court accused of killing Staffordshire woman found dead on driveway

A man's due in court this afternoon accused of murdering a woman from Staffordshire who was found dead on her driveway last month.

Valerie Freer, who was 68, was pronounced dead by paramedics outside her home on Lichfield Road, Whittington, at around 10:53am on Thursday 24 February.

A post-mortem examination confirmed Valerie died as a result of injuries to her neck.

Alexander Verdu Munoz, aged 26, an Argentinian national of no-fixed-address, has been with charged with murder, two counts of aggravated burglary as well as one count of burglary, possession of a bladed article and dangerous driving.

The murder charge relates to the death of Valerie Freer on 24 February, while the aggravated burglary and other charges relate to incidents which took place on 12 and 21 February.

Mr Munoz remains in police custody and is due to appear at Stafford Crown Court today.

“Please avoid speculating on social media as to the circumstances surrounding Valerie’s death, as you may prejudice forthcoming legal proceedings.”
