Police were called to Stone Road, near the Trentham Estate, at 3.20pm on Thursday (23 November) following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry.

Sadly, Safwan Rahman, 21, from Stoke-on-Trent, died at the scene.

His family continue to be supported by specially-trained officers at this difficult time.

In a tribute, Safwan’s family said: “We are devastated to learn of the passing of our beloved son.

“Aged 21, and studying neuroscience and biochemistry in his third year at university, he had such a bright future ahead of him. He was a loving son and brother, and universally admired by friends and family.”

The driver of the lorry stayed at the scene and has been helping police with their enquiries.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to recent police contact.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area are asked to get in touch with Staffordshire Police
