The family of a 91-year-old man who died after being hit by a van in Endon have paid heartfelt tribute to him.

Raymond Austin, a well-known local resident, was walking along the A53 Leek Road on Thursday, 10 April when he was involved in a collision with a van.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but, despite the efforts of medical staff, sadly passed away from his injuries.

In a statement, Raymond’s family said: “Raymond was a much-loved grandfather and father. A former engineer and college lecturer, he was an avid rambler. Please respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

The driver of the van, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.

Officers continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 or via Live Chat on the force’s website, quoting log 237 of 10 April.
