Three arrests have been made after Staffordshire Police stopped a car in Stoke-on-Trent over a suspicious package.

A cordon was set up on the A34 near Trentham Gardens as a BMW was stopped as part of a routine stop at around 11.15pm on Sunday 31 March.

The suspicious package was found after the vehicle was searched on the Trentham Gardens car park and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were called to assess it.

It has since been removed from the area and police say there is no wider threat to the public.

The cordon has also been stood down.

A 43-year-old man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, a 41-year-old man, from Stone, and a 37-year-old woman, from Abergele, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive instrument.

All three remain in custody.
