Married couple who died in Staffordshire collision named

A husband and wife who died following a collision near Stone on Sunday (16 January) have been named by police.

Barry Salt, aged 73, and Megan Salt, aged 74, and from the Wednesbury area, sadly both died in hospital following the collision.

Mr and Mrs Salt had been travelling in a grey Ford Grand C-Max at the time of the collision, at about 4.45pm on the A34 in The Fillybrooks, which also involved a black Mercedes AMG A.

A 17-year-old girl, who was also in the Ford vehicle, was assessed by paramedics at the scene and deemed uninjured.

The family have asked for privacy at this difficult time as they come to terms with the deaths of Megan and Barry.

A file will be prepared for HM coroner in due course.

Two other people, a man and a woman, who were travelling in the Mercedes at the time of the collision, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man, aged 29, has since been discharged from hospital and is assisting officers with their inquiries.

The woman, aged 24, remains in a stable condition in hospital.
